For the most part, the original review was fine, well at least the description was. You did a decent job of pointing out the shortcomings, and did a fair job of rating the seven categories. That is not the issue anybody has with it. The issue is that you have applied conditions to the star rating system, your own personal conditions, that effectively hijacks any reasonable meaning to the usefulness of the system. And that is the issue people are having.

I haven't hijacked anything, the review is a personal take on the camera, as all these reviews are, there are plenty of reviews on the net if you want to go and look at them, many of them missing some key points about these cameras, their IR capability being the most notable.

Its not that "these people" dont get it. I think we all understand what this camera is, we all get how passionate you are for this type of technology. Millier is right, it would have been a great thread or blog post or opinion piece. But by posting it as a review and hijacking the star system for your own personal tastes, it renders the star system meaningless, which is is not objective and frankly, pretty selfish.

Rubbish, there are all sorts of reviews on here you could tear apart, they're just opinions on how people feel about the cameras. Here's one, the guy gives the Sony A6000 1.5 stars because it doesn't have a feature he likes, seriously? where were you on this one?

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4039399

I could pull up hundreds of reviews with all sorts of quirky comments on here. Some consist of of one sentence, "great camera, love it!". At least I put some thought into mine, whether you like it or not. You're not the judge and jury on these reviews, they are what they are, just user opinions, not scientific and not monitored with strict guidelines, that's what the DPR Team is for if that's what you really want. Even they get shredded for the slightest comment if someone doesn't like it, talk about mountains out of molehills....

I didn't see that review, because it appears to have been posted in the Sony forum, where it belongs, and where I dont go. You, however chose to post in the open forum, lord knows why, and here we are.

No I didn't, I posted it assuming it would appear in the Sigma forum, for some reason it appeared in the Open forum, it was later moved to the Sigma forum, I have already commented about that earlier in the thread. However, you're still here, arguing the toss for some reason.

Had you posted it in the Sigma forum, I surely wouldnt have seen it, but I suppose you cant convert people to your favorite gear in a forum where they already have it. And in the process, you have shown more than one person that the star rating system is absolutely worthless, because of people just like you. "Why are you picking on me when you could be picking on this guy" is not a defense, and really is irrelevant.

See above.

You have taught me something though, and its that when I see reviews, I should just completely ignore the star rating. Apparantly fanboys have rendered that meaningless.

Well if you had checked the multitude of reviews on here, you would know that they are actually user opinions, here's another one, I can find plenty more for you if you like, they're not hard to find. This is a 1 star review because he had a few issues, most people rate the camera very highly, I suggest you take it up with him, you know, being a member of the review Police and all.

Here's another one, on the Nikon D500, and I quote:

Loved so much of this camera but I am not about to settle for less than D750 IQ especially at higher ISO..dont even try to tell me its the same..its not!

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4144570

That's the entire review, he gave it three stars because it didn't have the same IQ as a full frame camera, it looks like you boys need to get busy doesn't it. If you need any other examples be sure to let me know, as obviously you're not very good at finding them.

So here we are. OMG, people are saying my review sucks, here is a list of other reviews that suck.

Just pointing at the fallacy of your position on these reviews and how you missed so many others that are not exactly comprehensive.

OK, enjoy your camera, your thin skin, and the ironic display of a " reviewer" who seems uncomfortable with being reviewed. Best of luck.

I'm fine with other people's opinions, just exercising my right challenge them. However, do tell me how you found the SD-Q? You have used one right? Oh, and if you could point me to the review guidelines that would be nice

Epic fail, that's DPR's own Review ratings for their reviews, please point me to the User Review guidelines, you know, which match the actual user Reviews.

No "epic fail" at all. They write about the ethics they follow to produce a fair, unbiased, review of each product. You may wish to focus on the topic of ethics, and personal bias...unless you feel they should follow ethics in professional reviews...but you can manufacture any claim you wish for user reviews. You may also want to look at the numbers of support in the posts in this thread. Seems the overwhelming majority do not agree with you. Give that some thought as well.

"Epic fail".....what are you, three years old.?
