If you want a lightweight camera I would go for a D5300-D5500-d5600 over a D3400. for a few dollars you get better AF, the tilty screen, & better picture controls. With either series you have the limitation of older AF lens not have AF on either camera. At least a AF-D lens should still meter in PASM modes. Older AI lens will not even meter. Maybe find a D90-D7000 if you have those.

For sunny days a AF-S 18-55 VR2 + AF-S 55-200 VR2 or a newer AF-P 18-55VR + AF-P 70-300 VR makes a nice 2 lens bundle. This is the kit I bring to Disney or a zoo if I want to take pictures.
