Did my friend's cat buy Instagram followers?

Recently, my Instagram account (which is, and shall remain, private), reached the dizzying heights of 20 followers.

Naturally, I was somewhat overwhelmed by this outpouring of admiration and support, until a colleague at work pointed out that even his cat had over five times as many followers as I do.

Somewhat taken aback, I solicited the advice of my teenage daughters (cost centre 1 and cost centre 2), in attempt to understand whether members of the feline community are typically so active on social media.

To my amazement, they told me that is possible to pay websites in order to acquire followers.

This prompted the obvious questions in my mind:

1) Did my friend's cat buy Instagram followers?

2) If so, how could I tell?

3) Would the cat have acted ethically in doing so?

4) Is this practice common in the human, as well as the cat community?

5) How does this work? Are there legions of bots out there programmed explicitly to create fake cat followers?

6) Do cats tend to favour DSLRs or Mirrorless?

All answers welcomed.
Many thanks, Pete
