'Splotchiness' in blue skies

'Splotchiness' in blue skies

Hi all,

There is a very strange 'splotchiness' in clear blue skies in some of my images.

Here is an example - it's a bit faint but hopefully you can see it ...

f5.6, 1/800th second, ISO100, 36mm

Here is another example where it is even more evident:

f5.6, 1/1250th second, ISO100, 18mm

Could it be to do with using high shutter speeds? I've never encountered this before.
