Some say if some of your photos are not good the camera you use is only a recording device.

I'll keep this in mind for future reference. I packed it up, cried at paying $55 for Canada Post (and I couldn't even fully insure it), and shipped it out to APS in Illinois. At the very least, a healthy cleaning of the viewfinder was in order.
