Missing Lens ?

Hi all. I'm not a pro and don't do weddings anymore, so I've been in the process of selling off all my F2.8 Glass (24-70, 70-200, 105, 300mm etc), and  both my FF bodies (D810 and D750) and am now content with just some "consumer" glass for my D500 walkabout kit.

I currently have left the Nikon 16-80 F2.8-4 VR, the Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6, The Nikon 35mm F1.8DX, Nikon 300mm F4 AFS and the Tamron 150-600 F4-6.3 VC, and to be honest they all do me just fine and the image quality is more than enough for my needs.

Trouble is I have quite a big hole between the 16-80 and the 150-600 (which can't exactly be classed as a vacation lens). So am looking for something in the 70-300 range.

I had the Nikon 70-300 VR some years ago, which was OK, but quite soft at 300mm, but I also hear they have a new 70-300 and that the Tamron 70-300 VC is quite well thought of.

Any ideas what's the most respected lens to fill that gap with please ?
