Re: Shooting the moon with a $75 Fuji S8630

Your moon experience brings back fond memories.  I was blown away by my first try with my Fuji S1.  Although only a 50X zoom I find it pretty good.  This wasn't my first try, one of hundreds.

The P900 is definitely awesome but the S1 does have a few advantages.  For me the weather resistance is a must.  If you post process shooting in RAW is also an advantage.  If doing night shots (other than moon) the additional 15 sec. of exposure time gives you expanded capabilities.  Thirty second exposures often produce blurry stars though, because of the rotation of the earth.  This was taken in nearly complete darkness.

Enjoy your Fuji, mine sure has been an enjoyable learning experience.
