As a former D7200 and current D500 owner, as well as a card carrying pixel peeper, I also had big concerns regarding the lower MP count and whether the D500 would compare with the excellent quality of my D7200 files. Well, it does, and then some. The D500 really does have the best current DX sensor. Lower noise, whopping dynamic range, fabulous color, beautifully rendered detail and lots of it. D7500 owners are in for a treat.

DPR has spent a fair bit of time and effort comparing the image quality of some current 24MP cameras to the D500 and signed off on it handsomely.

I've the same experience here and agree. It's the best DX / APS sensor available so its good to see that this sensor is going into the D7500.

How much better lower noise?

The D7200 does not have whopping dynamic range?

The D7200 does not have fabulous color? What's the difference?

The D7200 doesn't have lots of detail? Can someone show samples?

And what makes the 20MP sensor better? Is it actually better? or is the 20MP sensor just one of nikon's "trick" and less expensive option? I mean, isn't the processor and the software the one that does most of it and not so much the sensor itself? I mean, if the 24MP sensor (which is already a really good sensor) would have been used I'm sure the new processor is what would have made most of the improvement. I'm I wrong?

Again, what is so "special" about this 20MP sensor, and is it actually a downgrade?
