How Many Use Adobe Photoshop????

I also use it for my work.

More importantly though, I have only one life with so much time. My most valuable possession that I cannot change is my time. I am alotted only so much time in my life. When it's over, it's over.

With that in mind, I feel when I am taking pictures, especially of my family, I want them to be the best pictures they can be. I also want them to last the longest.

I want my daughters to be able to have these pictures for a life time and then some. I want them to be the highest quality and last the longest. That's why I have stopped printing my own digital prints with inkjet printers. The pictures DON'T last. I take my digital files into a place that prints them out as if they were 35mm film. I believe it's called the Silver Alkoid process.

The good news about digital is that you can keep the original files and make new pictures also.

I would prefer to spend more and get the best quality editing software (Which supposedly PS 7.0 is since the pros use it.) Again it's something I can do for my family and for the kids whose pictures I am taking in high school (for fun in athletics) so that they can have the memories for the rest of their lives.

And what may be the last response: PSE 2 and PSP 8. Obviously
conflicted, just not enough to go for the high priced spread.

I started with 2.5, and am using 7 now. While 7 (with Adobe's update) runs 70-250% faster on a G5 (than without the update!), 8 is built from the ground up for X.

Hopefully people still stuck on windows boxes will switch when they see the benchmarks of 8 on a G5. Heck, they should switch looking at the benchmarks of 7! Even though 7 is carbon, it is WAY faster on a G5 than any other platfrom, by far.

From what I have seen of 8, it looks sweet.

The current splash screen is a little silly. Anyway, I am happy with 7. I hope 8 is truly awesome.

...but why would Adobe design 8 specifically for X, when they represent such a miniscule portion of the market?

Its not like 7 years ago when Macs still dominated graphics, they are just a sliver of even that market.

Not trying to start a Mac vs PC thing, I've heard the G5 is excellent...just curious.

... should you ever decide to move up to Photoshop: don't ever pay
full retail price. There are lots of deals out there if you look
hard enough and lots of students who could get it using their
student discount for you.

Adobe currently has a deal on PS7 if you do end up being interested:

http://www.adobe.com/store/products/special.jhtml?id=catMicrotek&sourcecode=112300
$299.00 for PSE owners.

From what I've read, PSE seems like it will do lots and lots of
stuff, so if you aren't interested in moving "up," spend your time
learning PSE and just have fun. Gives you more time to shoot
pictures.
Thanks for the tip and trust me, I will keep that in mine when I decide to update. I perchased PSE a few weeks ago and I really haven't time to see what all PSE has to offer. And I agree, while learning PSE, this will give me more time to shoot my pictures.

Thanks for the link,

Mark.

You might be. =) Hey if it works, so what? hehe

Although, you may want to download 7.0 for a tryout. You may
decide it's worth the $$ to use it.
I thought someone might say that. I though about buying 7.0, but my
cheapness kick in. What you pay for 7.0, will make a heck of a down
payment for a 828. I just bought PSE and haven't had time to see
how it really works. So far, I haven't figured out how to put more
then one "dfferent" image on a page. Can you do this with 7.0 or
even PSE?

Thanks

Mark.

I use PSE 2.0 and love it. My son has 7, and I'm not tempted to
use it. Elements does everything I need it to do. Sometimes I'm
amazed at what I can accomplish with it. So, don't feel bad. If
Elements works for you, you've saved lots of money! Jean
That's great to hear Jean. I just need to spend some time PSE to fully appreaciate all that PSE has to offer.

Thanks,

Mark.
And Which Version? 4, 5, 6, or 7? or other?? Just Curious

You should write a tutorial! :)

I haven't taken any classes, I started the retouch work years ago
when it was a speciality thing, and more or less invented all the
techniques I use.

Its been a fun ride, now with PSP 7 I'm a whirlwind...even an
extreme retouch will take 30 minutes or less.

The price is a huge break, but even if the prices were swapped, I'd
probably be using PSP...fits me like a glove!

Thanks again for the compliment!

dave
Great re-touch work. I have been giving PSP8 a lot of
consideration mainly due to the $$$ compared to PS. Did you take
any classes or read any particular books for your retouch work?

Thanks,

If anyone is interested, the retouch page is now up on my site, if
you'd like to see some of my PSP retouch work:

No this is what I mean.

In PSE when I uncheck the spacing the brush moves very smoothly in 1 pixel increments. When the spacing box is checked, the movement becomes choppy. In PS, I have not seen an adjustment for this effect, and I get the choppy movement with the brushes. Any ideas?

When zoomed in the effect is more noticeable yes.
... that it happens more dramatically when you're zoomed in?

...since I've taken the "artistic" approach as opposed to the "software" approach, I think it can be relatively timeless. I may have it printed yet this year.

I cover things like adding makeup, slightly improving bone structure, lengthening lashes, removing second chins, hair color and style, creating backgrounds etc.

I also get into specific techniques, but within PSP instead of PS...though there is a similar tool for everything in the other software.

I keep writing and rewriting it!

Well i hope this doesn't show up twice. The post I made is not showing up. But basically I wanted to thank you, I was able to finally find the dialog box in PS for the spacing:

You helped me dig in a little deeper :-)

In PSE when I uncheck the spacing the brush moves very smoothly in
1 pixel increments. When the spacing box is checked, the movement
becomes choppy. In PS, I have not seen an adjustment for this
effect, and I get the choppy movement with the brushes. Any ideas?

I don't have a solution for you. You could try leaving the box checked in PS and playing with the percentage. Don't think that will solve it-- only change the density of the brush. Makes me wonder, though-- if they created a solution for PSE, then maybe they'll do the same for v8 of PS. That would be cool.
