Sony #2 in Full Frame Marketshare, Nikon is #3! Not enough discounts on FX bodies? DX emphasis?

Looking at this time last year, the Nikon D610 was selling at $1,300, with an additional 25% off discount from Newegg bringing it down to $975 from an official dealer. This spring, there haven't been any notable FX promotions from Nikon, while Sony's original A7 is selling for $998 and other models have been subject to trade-in discounts. The D610 is still $1,500, despite being based on a 2012 vintage D600. Nikon hasn't had a single mainstream, non-flagship FX camera body introduction since the D750 in 2014.

Personally, I really don't see Nikon's marketing rationale for the steady drumbeat of new, and frequently decontented, Snapbridge afflicted DX models while the growing full frame segment is ignored to the benefit of Sony? It's not as if Nikon is waiting for an advance in sensor technology, since the high ISO gains in the D500/D7500 (and non-mainstream D5) have been at the expense of base ISO performance, which is a compromise, not an advance.

From where I sit, the D610 should be selling at the same sub-$1,000 price point as the Sony A7 and the the D750 needs to be no higher than the $1,500 Sony A7II. Truth be known, this sort of pricing is entirely obtainable, since even the D750 sells at $1,200-1,300 in the "grey market." In the absence of new FX bodies, Nikon really needs to discount heavily.
