I gave both the P7700 and P7800 a hard look; but in the end I stayed with my G15.

I have heard that Nikon farms out the manufacture of their P&S models. If true, I surmise that's the reason for the slow responses, and maybe the issue behind the failure of their DL series.

I had a Sony RX100 for a while, and didn't find it was that much better than my elderly S90 and S95, and really about on par with the G15. The FZ1000 with the same 1" sensor in a much bigger body and lens is a much different story.

I can't speak the RX100, but I have the RX100 iii, and it really does give you more ability to heavily crop without it looking bad, and it's cleaner at higher ISO. So yes it is "much better", but all the cameras mentioned in your post can make great images, in skilled hands.
