Yves: Eight weeks ago I would have been on your side regarding trusting a fellow DPR poster when spending a couple thousand dollars on an unseen DSLR from a total stranger.

Why eight weeks? Because that's how long I've been waiting for the $1,500 I paid for a camera and a lens and my D7100 to be returned from the Nikon NPS member who I gave it to, and who has been giving me endless excuses ever since. So far, no cameras, no lens, no refund. Only excuses. Now I'm on the buyer's side of the fence.

So, I can completely understand why some people would be cautious when seeing that "checks only" will be accepted in this type of transaction. Put yourself in the prospective buyer's shoes for a minute. What recourse is there if the seller doesn't follow through?

None.

Just keep in mind that it's not a personal attack on your honesty.

PS: This isn't meant to start a war with you, but it's just FYI; ... I won't give you the exact details of how to do it (I don't want to give any readers any ideas), but are you aware that I can pay for your camera with a check, and even after you cash it or deposit it and have the money in your account, and you then send me the camera, I can have the transaction reversed, with the money either pulled from your account, or any of your LINKED accounts, and have the money AND your camera, and be 99% certain of getting away with it?

All of which is covered in US banking law, and is why very few merchants will accept checks without third-party protection.
