Re: A3 up to 1600 ISO

@1600 ISO, noise is visible on a 4K display at a reasonable viewing distance and I wouldn't qualify 1600 ISO as "clean". But noise grows more IMO between 1600 ISO and 3200 ISO than it does between 800 ISO and 1600 ISO. If you pixel peep, without NR, you'll see noise even @200 ISO. I mentioned 1600 ISO because there is a kind of "break" here in the IQ vs ISO curve.

Some people won't be pleased with the 1600 ISO noise, and other will not complain with 3200 ISO noise. You should make your own opinion by downloading RAW files or by looking at JPEG samples (actual samples, not chart pictures).

But one thing is sure : noise is often much less visible on prints than on screens, so one must not be shocked by 100% views on a screen. What matters is the final output, and the handling of a camera.

Indeed a good handling helps to select quickly best parameters, avoid misfocus and have an appropriate shutter speed. And for most people, this is more important than noise or tack-sharp lenses : I never trashed a picture because of a soft corner, but I often do if the subject is not in focus or if a too low shutter speed induces too much undesired movement blur ! So take care of handling : accessibilty of most common options and focus selection.

Thanks for excellent descritiption.  All you said makes a lot sense.
