Hi all,

I'm thinking about treating myself to an A99 ii.

I currently have an A77 (original) with CZ 16-80, Tamron 55-200 (which is surprisingly good) and some old Minolta glass - Beercan, Big Beercan etc.

(Also an RX10 which is brilliant for "snaps" in good light - but irrelevant to the question)

First question - will I really see an improvement in quality? Partly, I'm looking for more differential focus like I used to get in 6x6 film days.

Second question - "standard" lens.

The Tamron lenses seem to a good compromise in qualty / weight / cost. (Kurt Munger) and people on Dyxum seem to like them.

There are two - 28-75 XR Di LD and 24-70 USD.

The 24-70 is obviously newer but twice the price. Although overall it's only about 10% when you include the camera! Normally, the 24-70 comes with VC mechanism - are we still paying for it on Sony even though we don't get it?

What about focussing - will the newer lens work better on the A99 ii? and enable the hybrid focus?

Unfortunately, neither of the "bricks and mortar" stores here in Belfast carry the camera, so I can't try it out in my hand, so I'd be very interested to here from other people who've made the same move. When the A77 came out, I handled it in the local shop and bought it on the spot!

Thanks for your help
