No one likes saving money more than I and at first you think you got a bargain, till a while later when they fail, in the end they cost me more than OEMs, so what's the point in buying them?

I don't have a D500 but I did recently buy some '3rd party' batteries for my D90 and D300. At the moment they seem to be performing as well as the Nikon ones. However, they only cost a quarter of the price so even if I have to repeat the purchase 4 times, I'll still be breaking even on the Nikon price.

That's the point.

Of course, if I have to do that 5 times then I've lost my punt - will have to wait and see what happens. On the ink cartridge front, I have both Canon ink and third party ink prints on my walls - no apparent difference after 5 years on display. So, again, good enough and possibly even better from the non-Canon ink.
