Keeping the capacitor charged is the reason the battery itself discharges over 10 days.
That sounds very logical - so probably has a faulty capacitor from scratch. I've just put in a fully changed battery and will check that every day several times to get a better idea of exactly how it really performs - assuming I find it has not (as thought perhaps as it seemed to do that?) discharged overnight.
Some years ago I had the top Braun flashgun (in my then studio/shop, I was a main dealer in an area in the UK) and if the batteries were left in that OR if the gun was put away without discharging the capacitor, the inside small springs as terminals would corrode.
