Is using lens optical stabilizer (OS) on a stable tripod a good idea?!

Yes, my scenario as you saw on the setup image was to rule out any external source of movement, so the whole experiment was ran in a confined place.

when shooting landscapes with a Sony A6000 on a lightweight Sirui travel tripod it seems that wind might cause some slight motion that the os could compensate. I was hoping that the is would improve image quality as if I were using a sturdier tripod

If the tripod is not stable enough for any reason , it would then be considered as an unstable condition and probably OS would help you get  a sharper image.

Thoughts?
