Look out for "brokerage"!
3

Ordered a camera grip from Adorama, after checking price and shipping, and, as a Canadian, expecting to pay GST and provincial sales tax on top of that.  Was shocked to get an Email from UPS stating that the item was being held waiting for me to arrange "brokerage" because of past experiences, like being charged almost $40 for a $25 book,

I have bought hundreds of items from all over the world, and sold dozens of items internationally.  I have never needed or wanted the services of a "broker".  Not even when sending a crate of our belongings to Germany, or returning with a container four years later.

I am perfectly willing to pay normal shipping costs and applicable taxes or duties.  I refuse to pay totally gratuitous bureaucratic levies,  'm sure that they will be soaking me for "return shipping"  or whatever else they can extract, but they have definitely lost this sale.  And future ones, as I am also sure that I will  will never be buying from Adorama again.
