Re: How to "lock" canon G11 and G1X user buttons?
I don't know about locking buttons, beyond potentially assigning functions to those that allow it that will cause minimal disruption, but I did discover a workaround for a related issue. When traveling on vacation, it's always tempting to hand my camera to a stranger and ask for a photo of my wife and me. Of course, I always look for a stranger with proper gear who presumably knows how to use an actual camera. However, despite this, it's not unusual to find that some of my settings have been inadvertently changed by accidental movement of the barrel ring or dial, depending upon the camera involved. To avoid these surprises ruining later photos until I realize what happened, I started using the C function on the mode dial. Program in a suitable group of settings for likely shooting during the trip and leave it in C mode. When you get it back, turn the camera off and on again before your next shot and you'll be reset to your custom default settings.
