I'm waiting to buy big lens again for D500. How do u feel about D500 + 300mm combo compared to D4 + 500mm? I remember you posted a comparison. Is the result comparable in the field? I expect D4 images will be still little bit cleaner (may be half stop?) If you shoot at same shutter speed for a given light (considering 300mm have one extra stop).

I'm waiting for the new lighter 300mm E lens. I don't mind a PF version if that will save couple of pounds :).

It's really a toss up. I like the IQ of the D4 and 500 F4 a little better, but it misses way more shots than the D500 and 300. In a few more weeks I will mostly be shooting with the D500 and 500 F4 as all the more skittish birds return and reach becomes more critical. We

Yep, I too like the IQ of D4 + 500mm but missed too many shots. May be there's no single solution for every subject and situation. I might get a longer lens again for subjects like you are waiting for (Warbler migration in spring?). For now my interest is not for small birds in close-up. Trying to get some action shots. New job doesn't give me lots of time for Photography
