If its related to internal battery, then my Nikon D7000 which is left without a battery in it for more than a year, had all the custom settings in tact when i dusted it off recently to test my friend's new Sigma DX lens. Strange!!

It's not an issue it is the technology used. As already pointed out: there is a capacitor that holds the settings not a battery. The capacitor will be charged by the battery that you (for whatever reason) removed. Now the capacitor can't recharge and consequently the settings get lost. Solution: Just leave the battery in the camera. There is no reason to remove it.

Makes sense Joachim, Thank you very much for the thought. Probably i was still in that syndrome "batteries leak if left for prolonged period as unused in an equipment/gadget"
