Hi!

Great you are back. If I were you, I wouldn't bother trying to calibrate the lens at first as this could really make things harder for you if you misscalibrate them of course is easy to rollback and revert the settings but then it will be something else to consider.

Why don't you start with something easier, let's suppose the camera is properly calibrated, put it in afs, single point central af and put the camera in Av mode ( one of the most useful imho ), exposure evaluation to full scene, ISO to Auto.

Then go outside in proper light and select a target shot at it and play with different apertures ( the aperture is what you are allowed to change in Av mode and what controls light passing and dof hence you would need more time for same exposure ). Then zoom in and try again. Then take those shots to the pc / mac / whatever and see the differences among them. If you are using jpg and not raw ensure the camera is set to the highest quality jpg file mode JPG*** . You can see the seetings applied in the shot by right clicking over the file, select properties and then the tab details.

Please notice that this lenses are not the best ones for indoor shoot without flash and in dim areas without tripod or flash. It might look there is enough light for your eyes but the camera is a different thing.

If you compare the camera with a sports car then i would say that doing this kind of things are like knowing when to turn and not hit a wall, when to hit the brakes, when to change gears and how to apply proper driving for the weather, road conditions and tires.

You will not get instant satisfaction, you have a learning curve ahead. And since you are not of the kind of people born in the instant satisfaction era I hope you will be fine with it.

good luck!
