Legacy EOS620 + lenses issues

I'm asking here as I don't see an alternate forum and some tests were done with my camera - so apologies if needed in advance.

My friend recently purchased from a charity shop an EOS 620 with Sigma AF-E 28-70 3.5-4.5 and Sigma AF-K 70-210 4-5.6 lenses.

The battery runs out quickly on the camera - I believe there is a known leak problem.

I wasn't able to test the lenses on the camera but tried them out on my 700D.  They both worked for one click and then I got an Err99.  I didn't feel inclined to pursue testing on my camera but should these lenses have worked?  Or is it likely that their electronics are fried?

Not much money was spent (considers it a donation) but my friend likes the idea of a film camera.  My temptation is to just put it in the bin but opinions are sought first.

Thanks
