Re: Best point and shoot around $300?

The Canon SX720HS is a very good point and shoot imv. Better than the Panasonic and Sony equivalents.

I own one and have owned the recent best Panasonic and Sony point and shoots.

The Canon has manual controls but not Raw. However it is very reliable on auto.

The 40x reach is surprisingly usable and the lens is reasonably sharp throughout the range. The noise reduction is less obtrusive than in the Panasonic or Sony. . . It's small, light and I've found that the battery lasts well too. . .

The jpeg output is even noticeably malleable/improvable.

After more than a thousand shots with the Canon I'm very satisfied with it.  It's obviously not up to the standard of a Nikon D810 but for the money and what it is I rate it very highly.

As for those who haven't used one, I'd not place a lot of weight on their opinions of it. . . .
