Re: Best point and shoot around $300?

This is probably the most recent posting you'll see for the Canon A720is.
I have owned mine since 2008 and I Love It !
It stores pictures quickly - in my walking groups I snap off pictures while others with more sophisticated DSLR's are sitting there tryng to capture  'The Perfect Exposure' - and then they are jogging to catch up with the group with 4 pounds of gear swinging on their neck!
Yes there are shortfalls such as slow recycle time for the flash, a slight delay when uploading full resolution pics, no RAW capabilities, blah blah ......
I have taken between 20,000 to 25,000 pictures with it and now it is starting to fail - such as the flash is now intermittent, the sensor can be inaccurate in low light situations but some of these shortfalls I can compensate with photo editing software.

Most people want real nice snapshots, something waaay better than what a cell phone camera can deliver - and this is where the Canon PowerShot series excel.. I have since bought a couple a710is as back-ups for when this camera dies - which is what is occuring.

What do I like about it that has caused me NOT to replace it with a newer camera? It has a viewfinder, it runs on 'AA' batteries and SD cards, the IS 'image stabilization' is great!
Manual over-rides for exposure, fits well in your hand, good selection for metering and focus settings.
