G9X or ?
So i was in the same boat as you a year ago. I wanted something that takes good photos but isn't as bulky or conspicuous as my 80D; something that would fit in my pocket comfortably and replace my G16. I bought a G9x and it unquestionably outperformed my G16 in image quality. I wouldn't recommend it as an only camera (no hotshoe, no EVF/OVF, no manual controls) but as a pocket camera its the only game in town. Sony's RX100 series are much bulkier with a protruding lens. You will absolutely be pleased with the results; they're impressive.
I did end up selling the camera as I just didn't use it that often. I just use my smartphone camera now (Google Pixel) and it suffices when I don't want to take my 80D.
If you have specific questions about the camera itself please ask.
