Hi there,

I dropped my lens (Canon 24-70 f2.8 mk1) from around 1,8 metres while adjusting my tripod, i think the camera was not secured properly. So far nothing is broken. but the zoom ring is sort of stiff around 24-30mm, and it makes a horrible sound, much like the sound ski pants make while "grinding" together. I am very sure something is not right, but i would like some help as to what it could be, so i can figure out what i will do with the lens.

Thanks!

Regards, Asger

That's too bad, but I suggest you take look at Roger Cicala's (LensRental) teardown of the 24-70 Mk I and MkII. It's easy to see why the MkI is frequently maligned lens. It's very poorly constructed compared to the MkII. I doubt you would repair it once you see the article and read Roger's comments.

(It may just be one teardown article with comments and comparisons of both lenses.)
