M5 and 80D - same sensor? Maybe not...?
2

We've just seen that the M5 and the 80D do NOT score the same at DxO Mark which may suggest the sensors are different, but not necessarily as sensors can be tweaked to emphasize performance in certain areas.

However, we see at The-Digital-Picture that the sensor sizes are also different. Now, I have no idea if something is slightly off in the measurements or not, but Bryan is pretty thorough so I doubt it. It's probably just that I don't understand something. Perhaps a part of the sensor is masked - but if so, why are the pixel counts identical?

M5 sensor is 22.3x14.9mm with a DLA of f/6
80D sensor is 22.5x15mm with a DLA of f/5.9

Hoping someone else can shed some light on this.  I mean, ultimately it doesn't matter when I'm lying on my death bed but it would be nice to satisfy my curiosity and it would also be funny to watch all of the review websites have to change their assertions that it's the same sensor  lol
