For almost all camera user, the filter thickness is not that important. Because it's something that you can not change nor do anything to it.

I had modified my mirrorless camera to take full spectrum picture. Use no glass instead of the original 4mm glass, foolishly think that "the thinner the better".

The result is disaster. With thinner glass, no wide angle lens can focus at infinity.

Change to 2mm glass improves just a little bit. Final modifiy with the 4mm glass kills that problem forever.
