SX60 worth upgrading from SX50?
Feb 28, 2017
TLDR: Thoughts on upgrading a SX50 to an SX60 for a senior, is it worth $215?
I picked up an SX60 on clearance (new in the box) at a local B&M for $215.
The only research I did was a quick look at amazon to compare the price but after getting back home and reading here (and elsewhere) I found that the SX60 is not exactly well loved.
I'm getting this for my dad, a senior. He had the SX40 then the SX50. His vision is not the greatest so I figure the 3" versus 2.8" screen would be nice.
He mainly uses this to take pictures of the birds and deer in his back yard and less frequently picts of the grand kids and loans it out to for taking pictures/movies of kids performances parades and whatnot.
So given the rather tame usage will he feel the SX60 is a worth $215 upgrade or should I return it and wait a couple of years for the SX70 (or whatever). (years because we typically spend $300ish on his camera upgrades so the SX70 would need to come out then drop in price to something reasonable for his usage)
At this point and with his age I don't see him converting over to Nikon or Panasonic he's familiar with the canon but not very adventuresome about learning new things.
He has an ipad pro, so if with the added wi-fi pictures could appear on that for him to email that would be a plus too . I'm geographically separated so it would have to be simple enough for my not-too techy sister to set up and super simple for him to use.
I know there has been a lot of discussion here on the SX60 but I'm not concerned with pixel peeping IQ, just if my older dad will think it's "better".
Thanks!
