X-Pro2 vs X100F for 1lens, 1body solution?
Feb 26, 2017
Brief background. I've previously owned X-E1, X-T10, X-T1, and X100s. Eventually sold completely out of the system as I just could not get on with the X-Trans files, even after trying a couple of different raw processors. This is not an indictment on the system, I understand why people love Fuji colors. But for me personally, I just prefer Bayer sensors and their output. Because of this, I decided Fuji for now can't be a main system for me where I"m investing into several bodies and/or lenses.
BUT, I love most everything else about Fuji, especially the newer 24mp sensors after having rented the X-T2 and the X-Pro2. Love the high ISO performance. JPEGs have always been solid, but I absolutely love the Acros sim. And the handling and ergonomics of a Fuji camera are second to none, imo.
So I'm kind of looking to use Fuji as more of a "fun" personal use camera, with just 1 body and 1 lens. I like the hybrid VF and rangefinder style, so am thinking of X100F or X-Pro2 with perhaps 23mm f/2.
The benefits of the X-Pro2 that would be relevant to me is the 1/8000 mechanical shutter, and better build with weather sealing. I also like that if something happens to the body, I still have a lens, and vice-a-versa. The issue I've kinda had with fixed lens cameras like x100s is that if something happens to the lens OR body, then the entire camera is kind of useless. That being said the quite higher cost of the X-Pro2 body only negates this somewhat.
Advantage of X100F relevant to me is smaller size/weight, and leaf shutter. Although I do have a Ricoh GR as well that I'd use for super discrete street photos. Leaf Shutter is also good for HSS, but I don't do that that often.
So which would be preferrable here?
