dp 0 Quattro ( eqv 21mm) and DP1 Merrill (eqv 28mm) Comparison
5

I bought a used DP1 M recently and did a little, completely unscientific, hand-held comparison of a scene with monotonous, grey skies.

Both cameras were set at +0.3 EV and f5.6. The focus was on the stone house in the middle of the photo.

I processed each photo using these settings:

dp0Q SPP all zero except Sharpness = -2.0, crispy = Middle, Chrome & Lum = Far Left Button. Export to Light Room as a TIFF and set Sharpness at +20 with everything else in LR at zero. Export to JPEG.

DP1M SPP all zero except sharpness = -2.0 and Exposure = -0.3 (to rid the over exposure warning in SPP), Chrome, Lum and Banding = Far left buttons. Export to LR as TIFF and set sharpness at +20. Export to JPEG.

Neither cameras like grey skies but I think the DP1M did a better job on seeking out the variations of grey in the sky. I also think the DP1M is sharper and makes a better job of the branches/twigs etc.

The colours from the dp0Q are probably a tiny bit better.

Both pictures could be processed to a much greater extent in SPP and LR but that wasn't my aim.

I make no comment on the lens quality from each camera.

I like the dp0Q for landscapes, especially stitched photos using the camera in the portrait orientation and I think, on balance, the DP1M will do better for absolute detail.
