T7i or 80D? (both with 18-135 nano USM lens)

Of course. You won't be able to tell them apart on a 24" monitor, let alone a 3" one.

Instead of helping with the decision, in the 30mins that i spent with the cameras the differentiating factors between the two seemed to matter less and less, getting to a point of coin-toss between the two. The camera shop rep also couldn't provide much insight. Thus in dire need of expert opinion (since mine is far from it).

You're the expert on what suits you, and only your opinion matters. You just have to choose between the light weight tool and the superior photographic tool.

A coin toss is a great way to break a deadlock like that, since it bypasses your rational mind, the one that has you stuck. Commit to buying the camera the coin chooses then toss it. If you feel elated/relieved/excited... with what the coin chose that's the one to go for, or if you feel anxious/disappointed/regretful... buy the other one.

Whichever you choose you'll regret what you gave up if you let yourself dwell on it, so forget that and enjoy your photography. You'll have a great time with either, just do it!
