Pleasant Surprise - SD14/17-70mm 'C'
1

Yesterday I shot some shrubbery to try out the recently-returned SD14. Thought it was a "lucky shot" because the twigs seemed quite sharp. The ones that were a pixel or two wide actually showed the staircase thing (aliasing) - even though I had set SPP sharpness at -0.7 for the SD14. Here's a crop:

So this morning I shot the target on the wall, same lens at 70mm zoom, same -0.7 sharp in SPP. Hand-held, manual focus. Opened in QuickMTF to get some numbers:

please view original to see the numbers.

Over 40% at Nyquist (64 lp/mm) !! And MTF50 at 55 lp/mm is not too shabby either.

So, for my kind of shooting and viewing, the decision to let go of the SD1M and re-acquire an SD14 seems right, as we speak . . .
