Chipped lens adapter not recognized in EOS 700D

Hello! This is my first question here. I bought a chipped M42 to Canon EOS adapter from XCSource from Amazon (this item here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H6SDZ6O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , but when I turn on my Canon 700D (T5i) camera with this adapter mounted I get this error message: “Firmware update failed. Try updating again”. When i press OK, I get a new message: “Memory card containing firmware is required to update.” The info that I have from the Amazon web site says that I may have to set the camera to No lens shutter release. But I do not see this option anywhere in the menus, including the Custom Function menus for this camera.

From what I can understand so far what I need to do, hypothetically, is install some firmware into my cameras memory card for this chip. I have no idea where to get this firmware. Somewhat annoying that I should have to do that as well. Elsewhere here, in another thread, another person had a similar problem with a different chip and the eventual solution was to either remove the chip or cover it with tape. I can do that, but I am hoping to not have to do that. Info from the Amazon page specifically says this item works with the 700D.

Thank you!
