I presume that the camera body was the (old) A7 MkI? The MkI CDAF AF was nothing to write home about as far focus speed was concerned ...

Well maybe I am out of order.  I only had Canon EF lenses  and MF lenses.  I never had an intention of starting a new lens collection of Sony FE lenses. My idea was to replace my aged Canon 5D with a mirorless FF sensor body.  But my application (live theatre) stumped it.  Apparently Metabones adapters can only utilise CDAF on this body and the CDAF is slow.  By stages Metabones have improved the AF performance and it is now still slow but more reliable.  But the contrast to EF lenses adapted to M4/3 bodies is huge - these lenses are fully usable and very useful on M4/3.  Can recommend.

Added to my A7R woes was the lower low light perfomance an effective death of AF and the A7R crazy ergonomics needed to be used for MF in a dark theatre is to horrible to re-tell here

Because I have refused to pay the entry price to upgrade to the A7Rii (I am having too much enjoyment from my M4/3 bodies) I can only pass on anecdotal evidence for the A7Rii AF performance with EF lenses - apparently it can tap PDAF now and the AF perfomance is nearly as good as it is using M4/3 bodies  

Just a small matter of AUD$4,200 body only in Australia last time I looked.
