Re: Nissin i40 flash review - thoughts on radio TTL

Thanks for the review.  A couple of comments:

The physical dials have had issues with the paint rubbing off.  The labels aren't recessed, so this will be a long term use issue.

The shape is obnoxious, but for packing you can store it folded and put the Olympus accessory flash with it, or some battery packs.  Or an Air Receiver if they release one (see below).

The flash is not radio TTL compatible; it uses the optical wireless control that is common to some of the Olympus and Panasonic flashes.  As far as I know, there is no Air Receiver for mFT yet (or Fuji, just Canon, Nikon and Sony).

Nissin has been releasing radio TTL components for mFT (Air 1, i60a, di700a).  If they ever release an i40a version of this flash, that would be interesting,

However, since the FL600R is around the same price, and it can act as optical wireless controller, I wouldn't think once about getting an i40.  In my opinion, the only reason for getting a Nissin flash is because they are first to produce affordable and convenient radio TTL for mFT.

I recently picked up the Air 1 DI700A kit; this is a good deal if you want an affordable radio TTL flash for mFT ($299).  I have yet to decide whether to add an i60a to expand it, or pick up the Pocketwizard for Panasonic.  I have yet to see any results for Olympus cameras.
