Zoom lens purchase advise

As a Canon 60D user for last two years and having just recovered from a broken neck(!) I’m planning a number of trips to catch up on missed landscape photo opportunities to Canaries, Scillies, Greece, Hong Kong, Oz and New Zealand.

I’ve just read Photoplus Magazine issue on budget telephoto lenses and have decided to add one to my camera bag.

Problem - which one?

1. The Tamron SP 70 - 300mm as recommended in the report at £300

2. A Canon EF 70 - 300mm f4 -5.6GL IS USB at £800 or,

3. Canon EF 70 -200 2.8l IS USB at £1500 (not sure I can afford this but maybe a used version perhaps?)

Not sure where to go on this:- be mean and go for the budget (1) or splash out and treat myself with the Canon 70 -300mm (2)?

I would appreciate any views and comments on this.

Many thanks,
