Flowers and Foveon . . what to do?
2

Scott posted some red flower shots from his SD14 that got me to thinking.

According to the GIMP, the images were well over-saturated, IMHO. The GIMP can decompose images so as to analyze their content. In particular, an image can be decomposed into three separate HSV layers, of which perhaps the saturation layer is of greatest interest in that discussion:

It is quite obvious to most that the image is totally blown in the petals from a saturation POV. Some may not care because the petals "look pretty", but the plain fact is that colors for the petals in this image are FALSE. They are false because, in the Real World, colors are defined by THREE values in RGB space, not two. And, in the the image above, green has been mostly forced to zero by the conversion and the post-processing so this is indeed a false color image, IMO.

Because this type of shot is posted again and again here, in all good faith, what is the opinion of this forum:

a) is false color OK, so long as the image is "pleasing"?

Or

b) is false color unacceptable, pleasing or not?

I'm genuinely interested in the consensus of this forum, please do respond!
