As I'm waiting for my rokkor 58/1.2 to arrive, I got some question in my mind. As you know, the filter screw of 58/1.2 is sitting just around the front element unlike other fifty lenses which has some gaps around. Will the vignetting kicks in if I put a thick filter or two?
And I also wonder what accessories other 58/1.2 users use to protect their lenses. Hoods? UV filters? Caps? Bare lens?
Thanks in advance!
Hello dongle!
There is no need to worry. I use my MC 58mm 1,2 with a Minolta UV filter together with a (MD 100mm 2,5) lens hood without getting any vignetting. The total lenght of that filter and lens hood "contraption" is 51millimeter and the internal diameter of the lens hood is 68millimeter. So adding a couple of filters only to your lens won't cause any vignetting. If you are going to use the 58mm with your NEX-5 you may use an even longer lens hood. (When you can see just a tiny bit of vignetting in the far corners of your image, when your lens is focused to infinity and set to F16, then the lens hood is long enough.)
Enjoy your 58/1,2!
Regards
Thanks for answer!
I forgot to mention but I'm using my nex-5 with focal reducer so... It has FF angle of view. By the way it's quite impressing that the hood for 100mm doesn't interrupt the view!
I was considering to get a D57kb hood but It seems to bulky for my purpose. I think I should make some custom hood.
Best regards
