M5 with Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC - Autofocus issue.

Last weekend I had a chance to try (used) Tamron 17-50 f2.8 with VC on my M5 with the adapter, and I could not get a good autofocus on the 50mm side. (at 17mm it worked fine, though a bit slow). It failed to lock focus about 80% of the time.

Note that I turned off the continuous auto focus and used One Shot focus. I did try another (also used) lens of the same model, with similar result.

I also have a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 non-VC that I used on my 6D and it work just fine on my M5.

Has anyone been in similar situation? Do you think I will have the same problem with the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 non-VC version? Or should I get the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS instead? Will it have the same problem?

Thanks.
