What is the current equivalent to the G15 in it's day?

Well, they added the DIGIC VI processor and named it the G16.  The G16 has faster AF and some other features; but the IQ is a step back from the G15.

Probably, the closest thing to a follow on model would be the G7X ii; but it lacks an eye level finder and only goes to 100 mm.

Personally, the G15 does things for me that nothing else does, so it stays around as my "local event" camera for school plays and concerts with my grand kids, the river in flood, and some other local events that require a fast lens, and/or compactness.  Except for the very coldest weather, it stays in my car 24/7.

Mine has a Lensmate filter adapter, and I also use it with a 270EX flash.  I've had it for 5 years; which might be a record for me.  No, I take that back.  My S90 has been around since 2009.

I used to take the G15 on travel; but I recently bought a Sony RX100 and HX80 for light travel.
