Have you considered the less expense Oly 12-50?

It's a good value and if you're starting out you may want to watch your budget.

I am not really starting out, I have been into photography for clost to 10 years, started with a canon Rebel XT then a Nikon D5100 with an 18-200 lens

While new to M43 it sounds like you have the experience to know what is important to your photography.

looking to upgrade to higher end camera and a good lens without it weighing a ton hence my choice of micro43

Size, weight and features are some of the reasons I made a switch to Olympus M43. I sold all of my DSLR gear rather than have it sit around unused and depreciate. You are wise to carefully consider your options before spending a significant amount on a system.

Good luck with your camera and lens choices. One thing about DPR forum is that there always  seem to be many opinions expressed to stimulate thought.

That is what I am looking for, My preference is the 12-100 for the versatility, I am lazy so if one lens will do the job, why carry two??!!

I think the extra 50 mm of reach that the 12-40/40-150 combo gives me is not really worth having and carrying two lenses, and I rarely shoot indoors so the f2.8 is not important.

and from the responses I received, looks like the 12-100 quality is comparable to the 12-40. Not as good as or better but close enough

thanks guys

love the forum!!
