Panasonic G7 and DMW-FL360L Flash Issue
Jan 25, 2017
I need some feedback regarding flash photograpy using the Panasonic Lumix G7 and the Panasonic DMW-FL360L flash. I have only one lens on the camera and it is the Panasonic 14-140mm model H-FS14140 which came as the kit lens when I purchased this camera new. My issue is the following:
When I take a flash picture, I set the camera to Manual mode. I choose the widest aperature (usually about f4) with a shutter speed of 1/60 or 1/125 of a second. I start with an ISO of 200 (not AutoISO) and the subject to camera distance is around 6 feet. The flash is in TTL A mode and flash compensation is zero. I bounce the flash (usually at the ceiling using a Stofen Diffuser) to reduce shadows. When the lens is set to 14mm (widest angle) the flash seems to give me a properly exposed image. The problem occurs when I zoom in to take a flash picture (angle larger than 35mm). All images are dark. I have tried to up the ISO in these situations but the resulting images are still underexposed. Increasing the ISO doesn't seem to help. I'm beginning to think that my knowledge of TTL Flash Photography is incorrect. Am I missing something or is the camera/flash malfunctioning? Batteries are fresh. I never had an issue like this with any of my Nikon DSLRs and Speedlights. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
