Foveon highlight blown - what to do?

I shot the sun with my SD14. This is what happened:

Original, with no adjustments.

I tried to reduce the exposure, and that made it worse:

Exposure reduction (2 stops)

Then I tried to recover highlights, and that didn't do much either:

Highlight reduction.

I tried a combination:

Combination of adjustments.

Then I tried to correct it with the fringe correction tool:

As you can see, I'm still getting a "ring" around the Sun.

Settings

The best I could do and still retain a significant amount of the look of the original photo was to apply Magenta Fringe Correction, but I had to adjust the color, range, and amount. Still, it was to no avail. Sometimes it seems the Foveon sensor just doesn't handle the sun well. Time to do some color replacement therapy in GIMP.
