Hi Keith, I believe some mkii lens have not been up to scratch - possibly poor quality control from the factory side - but based on the length of service and effectiveness of the mki I'm sure Canon will soon sort it out. The other complaints seem to be that it doesn't match up to certain other lens's. It doesn't really matter whether it does or doesn't, because it was only made as an improvement over its predecessor

Correct, which is why I noted and posted photo examples of the mk1 kicking its behind for sharpness and contrast where it matters to me most.

- the same goes for the 100-400 mkii. My 24-105 mkii continues to deliver what Canon promises and is very sharp. I have used it straight out of the box as is, without lens corrections or registering it to the camera and it works as it should. I'm sure Canon will address any problems - maybe you should try another one from a different batch number?

I sent it to Canon, the approved of its performance, I wasn't going to keep swapping out the lens in hopes of getting a good one.

All in all, Canon does make good products, but flaws are bound to creep in from time to time.

Again, sent to Canon, and they approved it as working properly. My experience certainly isn't unique, it is in line with pretty much every lens review so far.
