Great walk-around for hobbyist/amateurs

I got this lens for Christmas with money I received.  This lens gets a bad wrap online because it is an "all in one" and most online judge lenses on "pro standards".  This lens is NOT a pro lens... and I dont think it was ever meant to be judged that way.

It is a good walk-around/all-in-one lens for amateurs, hobbyists, family pic takers, etc.  This is perfect for myself.  If i'm trying to get a portrait, low light, or trying something else with max image quality in mind, then yes, I'll use something else.  I think its a great lens for $200 if you are buying it for the right reasons.

The build quality feels nice for the money and makes me feel better than my kit lens did.  The zoom is maybe a tad tight new, but I think it's going to break in to just the right feel.  I wish it didn't turn backwards (well, I know Canon really is the one backwards).
