Anyone interested in the new Fuji 50mm F2 ?

I am!

I have the 60mm macro, but I think I will sell it and buy the 50/2 instead. The 60mm is optically a great lens, if not one of Fujis best lenses. But the AF is increadible slow, so I only can use it for portraits and stills - not interested in the mcaro function at all.

So I think the 50/2 will be a good replacement, perfect for portraits (where f1.2 is a too thin DOF for my taste) AND for moving people or other moving things.

Rico Pfirstinger (aka flysurfer) has some fist impression pictures of the 50/2 on his flickr account. Including a bokeh comparison to the 56/1.2 - and the results look really pleasing.

He also commented in another Forum, where he stated that he really likes the 50/2. It is fast, has a similar bokeh like the 56/1.2 (at same aperture values), and is sharp wide open, even at minimal focus distance.

I always preferred the rendering of the 60mm vs 56mm (cold colors and sometimes busy bokeh), in online samples at least and I think the superthin DoF make all portraits look the same... I hope the new 50mm is in the 60mm side rather than the 56mm.

Looking at the samples provided in the link I posted, the bokeh is pleasing for my taste. The 50/2 also has 9 apterture blades just like the 60mm (the 56mm has 7 blades), so the chances are good that the bokeh will look similar :-)

If I did not already have the 56mm f/1.2, I would be interested. But the 56 is by far my favorite lens, so I'm not parting with it :).

Not at that price. To much for a slow 50mm
Lol at photographers these days. "16/21/24 megapixels isn't enough" and "f/2.0 is a slow lens".

Not really. I've never understood the appeal of ~75mm FOV.

Too short for the portraits I like to take (though I guess one could argue -- take one step closer).

Too long for normal photos.

I've even tried using my adapted Pentax 50mm multiple times, but it just doesn't jive with me.

It could be a compelling trio with the 23/2.0 and 35/2.0.
It's a bit of a bummer it does not share the same filter thread as above-mentioned lenses.
I know there are a lot of factors going into this. But it would have been near.
Yup! Was hoping for the same filter thread so I don't need to mess with too many different step up rings for landscape work. Oh well.

If you look at the number of 75 FOV lenses offered it looks like you opinion is shared. Portrait length is basically 85 to 135. 75 is stuck in no man's land too long for the street - too many people can get between you and you shot if you step back and too short for portrait.

I guess all those f2 Summicrons are just garbage now since they're so slow. If these were still film days there'd be people complaining that Kodachrome 25 was too grainy and they want a Kodachrome 1 for superior sharpness and lack of noise/grain.

f2 is slow for a $450 lens almost $700 where i'm from.
And where I'm from, the max aperture is not the only thing I'm paying for in a lens design.

Depends on your specific use. It has nothing to do with "these days" vs. other days. For some uses, f/2.0 really is too slow. For other uses it isn't.

Don't hate me for saying this, but in many ways it reminds me of the spiritual successor to the Pentax SMC 77mm F1.8 Limited. Small, Compact, Sharp, aperture ring, lovely rendering.... I wish Fuji had made this one an F1.8 personally to get just a little closer to that 'look' of the 77mm limited Pentax. Obvious the 77 pentax on a FF body has just over a stop in terms of additional shallow DOF, but I found it to be a wonderful prime, superior to even the Leica equivalent.

Much brighter, better colors, better AF.

I'm not sure I want this lens for my X-T10, but it's a strong contender for a first lens for that X-Pro body I will probably get some day.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how the new fifty gets along with the X-Pro2.

That's a lens I always kinda wanted, even though I am trying to limit my Pentax kit to WR only.

Sure, but it's just gas from the Indian food I ate last night. I have the 35mm and the 55-200 so I don't really need it... I don't really NEED most of the lenses I have but I do have a specific use for each one.
