Fujifilm 16-55mm f2.8 awful

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on dpreview and I hope it will help potential buyers of the Fujifilm 16-55mm f2.8 lens. I own a Fuji XT1 with the 18-55 and the 18-135 lenses and I wanted to step up my game, ditch the kit lens and go for a better lens. I was hoping that the 16-55mm will be that lens, but boy I was wrong.

While shooting during the first few days, I've noticed a lack of overall sharpness, resulting in very soft images, almost like the kind of photos you could easily take with a mobile phone. I've tried different combinations: handhelp vs tripod, wideopen vs f5.6 and/or f8 etc. All images were terrible. Both the 18-55 and 18-135 lenses produce much better images!

I then decided to sent the lens for warranty to Fujifilm Service Netherlands, which sent it to Fujifilm Germany which sent it in end to Fujifilm UK. After a long wait, I received the lens back with a note saying: "We performed a full alignment of your lens and now it is working under the same specifications as other 16-55mm lenses."

I read that sometimes it can happened that one of the glass elements is misaligned and this could be the culprit. I was very happy that they realigned the elements and went out and start shooting. I was shocked: the same soft images all over again!

I explained this to Fujifilm again, but no sign from them. What should I do? Does anybody have any experiences with this lens? I will try to upload some of the images to get a better understanding of this.

Thanks,

Mark
