sony owns the aps-c mirrorless space

Did you not read the first post in this thread? Sony is now #2. Canon "owns it".

Are you serious? Firstly these sales relate to heavily discounted low-end products (Canon only has one enthusiast-level mirrorless product and no high-end ones), secondly you realise that if you stuck a Canon sticker on a Sony box, Sony would have the highest sales.

People aren't buying Canon cameras, they're buying the name. It is one of the most established in terms of recognition across all markets. Like Nike, Rolex, Rolls Royce. Most of the people who bought those cameras will have never even looked at the competing product and couldn't tell you first thing about it's specs.

I don't know why Canon users get so jubilant about this. You can't mount a sales statistic to your M5 to make up for the lack of lenses or the dodgy shutter release.

And the quality gap between Canon and it's competitors may not yet be great enough to harm the brand but it will come in time if Canon carries on producing inferior and late-to-market products like the M5 and 5D4.
